Textbook

Having the textbook from day 1 will be the key to your success. The bookstore should have books in stock, although we did add another section so I am not sure about the quantity. The publisher website gives us a reduced price on the bundled book....it really is one of the best deals that I have seen, particularly since it comes with Free Ebook. I highly advise that you sign up for that when ordering. Or, consider purchasing just the ebook, if you prefer. Here is the information I am seeing on the Cengage (publisher) website:

Reduced price bundle (Understanding Nutrition, 13th ed AND Diet Analysis Plus: http://www.cengagebrain.com/micro/cabrillocoll          $120 (although my rep said that this price was changing to $133)

ebook (Understanding Nutrition, 13th ed, only): http://www.cengagebrain.com/shop/isbn/9781133607014    $128

Diet Analysis Plus only: http://www.cengagebrain.com/shop/isbn/978-0-538-49509-7      $50

Bookstore (use section 26013), loose leaf (not bound), bundled: http://westvalley.bncollege.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/TBWizardView?catalogId=10001&storeId=28562&langId=-1                 $150

I cannot guarantee these prices, but this is what was posted on 12/28/2012. I encourage you to order your book ASAP. The bookstore IS open on 1/2.

Winter Session 2013, West Valley College

West Valley is offering 2 winter section classes this January. This is an intensive course, covering all 16 weeks worth of material in a "4-week" session, with the first 2 days as holidays. All enrolled students will need to email me by January 2nd to confirm a spot in the class. In addition, you must log into our course that day and complete the Intro Quiz or the Intro Discussion post which will count as positive participation. Without this, I am required to drop students as a no-show. I anticipate being able to add any waitlisted students and will need an email requesting and add code by 1/2, as well.

The following is a tentative copy of the course schedule. Information about textbook and application requirements are in the sidebar. If you opt to use an older version of the text, it will follow our chapter outlines most of the time, but you are responsible for any information not found in the the older version of the textbook. Quizzes are written with a look towards the newest version.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at my gmail account. My id is nutritionrusso followed by the @gmail.com. Or, you can follow updates on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Nutrition-with-Denise-Calafato-Russo-MS-RD-CGE/209236099092535?fref=ts

Late Start Fall Class

Welcome to class, students. I hope you are ready to get started with this intense, 8-week course. You should have received email communication from me. If you look under the previous Fall post, you will find information about orientation that will apply to our class. The sidebar has information about the textbook. The most important thing you can do while getting ready for class to start on 10/22 is to obtain the textbook.
I hope you are ready to learn about the science and fun of nutrition.

Fall, 2012

Welcome Back to School!

Cabrillo, CAHM 20: All classes begin on Mon, August 27th. Students enrolled in the online section must attend the mandatory orientation/first class meeting on 8/27 from 7-9 pm in room 454. Any student who cannot attend the orientation on 8/27 will need to email between 8/24 and 8/27 (before 5 pm) to prevent being dropped from the class and to make alternate arrangements. See Fall schedule for more information. All online students should log into class, via Blackboard, on August 27th. In addition, please make sure that your email address is up-to-date with the college as I will email all students on my class roster before August 24th.
Face-to-face students (MW mornings) need to attend class on August 27th to confirm class participation or will be dropped from the class to allow another student to add. Class meets in room 426. The syllabus will be posted in Blackboard so you may download it from there, before class, if you would like a hard copy.
